Harry Potter wants YOU… to change the world!

OK, it’s not actually HARRY, it’s the non-profit Harry Potter Alliance that is trying to channel film and fiction fandom into charity, “social change” and good works.Those things have been after-thoughts to the fanboys and girls who made Star Trek, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings phenomena that had lives outside of the big and small screen. A little charity, here and there, but mainly those fans are about the faux reality of the world of their fixation — Trek on big screen and small, The Empire, The Rebel Alliance or Middle Earth.
But not for Muggles.
Update: Fox News has seen fit to see this “alliance” as being for everything Foxists hate. Welcome Fox fans and thanks for following the link. Didn’t realize Andrew Slack was on your list. But those code words “social change” is a phrase that freaks some people out.
There will always be those who see things differently. There are many reasons for it. Some people simply do not like change and that is okay. I try to always remember that they are people too who obviously care deeply about something. I try to be like Dumbledore and never attack the person, only bad ideas, in a calm and reasoned way. It is important to try and understand each other, even when and especially when we do not agree.
Well said, Amanda! My grandmother and I are very close, but disagree on MANY things. I’m always having to remind myself that she’s had different (harder) experiences than me, and there are always reasons behind the decisions she makes.
Dumbledore was always great about listening to each persons view, whether he agreed with them or not did not matter. He was open and listened to their point of view and only commented if necessary. He never once blew up at people for having views that did not make sense to him or were not morally correct. I go through that battle everyday with my Mom. She does not understand Harry Potter and thinks the fandom is a cult. We argue everyday about her views on other ways i can help the world that don’t involve the Harry Potter Alliance. Even though we disagree on the subject, I know that she helps in her own way and i help in mine.
