The What Would Dumbledore Do Campaign
Throughout the summer millions of theater goers will watch the shocking death of Harry’s mentor Albus Dumbledore followed by Harry stating that Dumbledore will live on in all who remain loyal to his spirit. Although Dumbledore is obviously a fictional character, his presence remains very real in the hearts of we who love Harry Potter and his message, much like the message of such real life figures as Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama, is needed in our world.

Coordinated by the HP Alliance, the What Would Dumbledore Do campaign is about the entire Harry Potter fan community  (including people who have just seen the Half-Blood Prince film) coming together to show our loyalty for the greatest Wizard whoever lived, with the hope of allowing the spirit of love and justice that Dumbledore stood for to live on in us and for that spirit to be translated toward the kind of transformation that humanity needs in these “dark and difficult times.”

Below is a list of how we are doing it and how you can get involved. In the mean time, if you have ANY questions about this campaign or to find out how you can volunteer please email us dumbledore@thehpalliance.org – if you are with the press, please email press@thehpalliance.org

The What Would Dumbledore Do Doctrine The “Dumbledore Doctrine” is a living document that takes a comprehensive approach to our lives and our world by translating lessons that we can learn from Dumbledore – every day new lessons will appear on this page, so keep coming back! (There is also a special section to hear what luminaries in our fandom have to say about Dumbledore).

Please bear in mind that the views expressed in the Doctrine do not necessarily reflect the views of our many friends and partner sites in the fandom nor the views of JK Rowling, Warner Bros., or individuals and companies associated with producing and publishing Harry Potter books and films. Further, the Doctrine can helped be written by you. Here’s how:

  • Go to our Common Room. If you don’t have one already, start a user account – it’s quick, simple, and free. Once you have your user account, click on “Add Content” and then click on “Blog Post.”
  • Write a blog post about how Dumbledore has touched you personally. If it makes it easier, you can write a letter directly to Dumbledore about how he has touched you and post that.
  • Feel free to post around themes on love, trust, freedom, being yourself, equality, and any thing else that you can think of.
  • Take a look at other people’s blog posts and comment on those. If you want to go all out, post a video.

Also, feel free to comment on the Doctrine blog posts! Dissenting views are welcome though please remain respectful.

From this lively discussion, we will compile 100 lessons that we can take from the World’s Greatest Wizard. And who knows? Maybe it will even end up as a book!
The Dumbledore Movie Theater Challenge: Thousands if not tens of thousands of Harry Potter fans around the world attended the movie’s midnight release on July 15 wearing name tags that state a lesson that Dumbledore taught them. They also handed out name tags for everyone in line to fill out in at least hundreds of movie theaters. You can still visit this page to print out your name tags.

The Dumbledore Twitter Challenge: partner sites such asThe Leaky Cauldron, Mugglenet, and various facets of the HP fandom helped us take over Twitter by getting over 12,000 tweets of #dumbledore in under nine hours on the night of the movies release. Each time people tweeted, they often mentioned something that Dumbledore stood for and how he lives on in each of us.
