Start Wrock 4 Equality 2 Early!

Wrock 4 Equality 2 is just a few days away! Before our epic Livestream event featuring wrock music and special guests on Saturday, though, here is more info about what we’re going to be doing to help promote marriage equality in Rhode Island!

We’re working with Marriage Equality Rhode Island to spread the word about a bill that supports same-sex marriage in the state of Rhode Island. We’ll be helping them phonebank to show our support and to help get this bill passed!

Even though the big event isn’t until Saturday, you can actually make phone calls on Thursday and Friday and still earn house points! You’ll get 5 points per call AND 5 points for each person you get to agree to sending a digital postcard. That’s up to 10 points/call! And the best part is: you don’t have to keep track of your calls! The system does it for you!

Before you start, just know that the phone lines are open between 12 pm and 9 pm EST. This system is free and easy to use, so there’s nothing preventing you from calling!

How to Make Phone Calls on Thursday and Friday:
1. Go to www.callformeri.org
2. Choose “Click Here to Login” – do not choose the register option
3. Username: potter, Password: horcrux (many people can be logged in at the same time, so don’t worry!)
4. Go to “Training”
5. Choose “Member Build Training”
6. Watch the Training Video – about 8 minutes long
7. The Training Video will walk you through how to proceed with making phone calls

Tips:

* If you want house points for your phone calls, use one of the following email addresses when prompted: slytherin@hpa.com, hufflepuff@hpa.com, ravenclaw@hpa.com, gryffindor@hpa.com, awesome@hpa.com
* You can download the script and practice a few times before you start. I recommend printing it out and making a few notes on how to make it sound less scripted.
* Relax! Most people are happy to help!

It's Time To Wrock the Vote!!

The sun is shining, the pools are shimmering, the waves are crashing and the bands are WROCKING. Your favorite wizard rock bands are coming to a city near you. And they bring with them Harry Potter songs and the chance to register to vote while wrocking. Because Mid-term elections are this November. A third of our Senate and the entire House of Representatives are up for re-election and YOU get to choose whether or not they stay in office. Because while the Mid-term elections are not as glamorous as the Presidential elections, they are just as important.

Mid-term elections are like a report card for the Federal government. We get to tell them how they’ve done the past two years, whether we want them to keep going in the direction they are headed or whether they need to change course. And your Congressmen are the people who are best poised to make sure that your issues are paid due attention because they know your region and your hometown best. But YOU have to make your voice heard – by voting, and by getting your friends and family to vote. Here are some ways you can help:

1. Show up to your local Wrock concert and register to vote. Click here to find out where the nearest show is and then GO! Register to vote as you wrock out.

2. Volunteer. Click here to see a list of shows where we still need a volunteer and then fill out the form or send me an email sara@thehpalliance.org. Volunteering is easy and fun. Don’t worry, we’ll walk you through it. You’ll have all the support and love of the HPA behind you.

3. Remind your friends and family to vote. If they aren’t registered, take them to the wizard rock the vote site, here, and show them the information we’ve got. Or better yet, take them to your local concert and have them register there!

Join the Remus Lupins, Harry and the Potters, Whomping Willow, the Parselmouths, the Moaning Myrtles, Justin Finch-Fletchly and the Sugar Quills, Gred and Forge, All Caps and Tonks and the Aurors as they wrock their way to the polls.

We are incredibly lucky, in this country. We have a fully functioning democracy, one that allows us the opportunity to make our voices heard in the simplest way. But its our responsibility to make use of it. It is our responsibility to show up on election day and vote. And it is your responsibility this summer to WROCK!
