The Climate Crisis

Imagine Better, the Climate Crisis Horcrux
In June and July of 2011, The Harry Potter Alliance culminated the nine-month Deathly Hallows campaign by facing the biggest horcrux to date: The Climate Crisis. This all-encompassing horcrux was distilled into several categories based on specific facets of the problem, covering human rights, clean energy, deforestation and agriculture, political inaction, household activities, and more.

To prepare for the horcrux, there were helpful resources available on our website, as well as frequent, informative, and often personal blog posts pertaining to the important issues. These, together with enthusiastic discussions in the regular livestreams, generated many ideas about how to attack the problem. These ideas were later channeled into the Imagine Better contest.

Countdown by Wenqing

The Imagine Better contest was run by the HP Alliance in partner with Splashlife. Submissions ran from June 27th to July 22nd, followed by a voting period that ended July 31st. The contest had two categories, ideas and art, both intended to display or fight the Climate Crisis. The winner of the art contest, Wenqing, won $1000 for the piece, “Countdown,” to use as she pleases, and she plans to donate it to charities that fight the Climate Crisis. The winner of the ideas contest, Monica, won $1000 to make her “Wrock for the Environment” concert a reality. Additionally, the top five entrants from each category will receive feedback from an all-star panel of advisors including Bill McKibben, Hank and John Green, Jason Alexander, Evanna Lynch, Anthony Stewart Head, and several more.
