In March and April of 2011, Harry Potter fans fought the Illiteracy Horcrux by donating books, not only to various schools and local communities, but also to the “Imagine Better” library—a library built by the HPA for the new Bedford-Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School in New York City.
For the past three years, the Harry Potter Alliance has held the annual Accio Books! drive, sending books as far as the Mississippi Delta and Rwanda. This year, in addition to school and community support, we also donated 9,283 books to help create a library for school children in Brooklyn. Further, on March 19th and 20th, the HPA teamed with Borders Bookstore so that proceeds from 486 book purchases helped build shelves for the new library.
In total, we donated a whopping 32,011 books this year.
In addition, we celebrated the magic of reading through livestreams with our Heads of House, and a number of great blog posts, including literary lessons from a nine-year-old.
Congratulations to Hufflepuff, who won the House Cup with 118,100 points, and a big thanks to their Head of House, John Green.
