We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men (and women, and undocumented Americans, and children, and…) are created equal. Regardless of where you’re from, who you love, or how much money you have, we believe that you deserve the same rights and opportunities as everybody else. Over the past seven years, we have rallied for numerous forms of equality. We’ve contributed to educational equality by donating over 90,000 books to communities across the world through our Accio Books campaigns. We’ve broken phone banking records with Mass Equality in support of equal marriage. We’ve taken the world by storm with Julian’s Muggleborn American video, which amassed over 10,000 views in one day and helped open minds and hearts to the notion of immigration equality.
From August 15 to September 8, 2012, we expanded our ability to tackle these important issues with a very successful fundraiser, Equality FTW. Over the course of just a few weeks, we received a total of $94,803 (!!!) from 2,289 donors across the globe! Donors gave money in exchange for exclusive perks from a variety of vloggers, musicians, artists, authors, and internet celebrities, including John and Hank Green, Potter Puppet Pals, Evanna Lynch, Maureen Johnson, LeakyCon, Starkid, and more!
Our goal was to raise $50,000 for our equality-related initiatives; needless to say, we blew past that goal and nearly doubled it! Since achieving this awesome victory, we’ve followed up on our promise with multiple equality-based campaigns, including Equality FTW: Vote 2012 and Accio Books 2013.
