The Return of the ‘Kill the Gays’ Bill
Yep. It’s back: the Ugandan “kill the gays” bill that would make being gay a crime punishable by death. The return of this bill to Uganda’s Parliament is particularly painful the day after the Transgender Day of Remembrance, and to add insult to injury, they’re actually billing this as a ‘Christmas gift.’
Unfortunately, you read that correctly. However, we’ve stopped this bill before. They’ve tried to pass it a number of times, mostly recently a year ago when they tried to force it through the parliament at the last second. This time, they’re trying to do the same thing and it’s up to us to stop them.
Every time they’ve tried this in the past, it has been pressure from outside countries that finally helped to get it stopped. They seem to be hoping that if they don’t give up, we will–and it’s up to us to prove them wrong. We know better than anyone the powers that individuals have over the events of the future, and this is the time to prove it to the world.
So take up the challenge and let’s get this thing stopped! Sign the petition here, and share it with everyone you know.
This bill may be put up at any moment, so it is essential for us to act now. Sign the petition, tweet and facebook it and let’s get this madness stopped before it ruins any more lives.
