What can a bunch of kids do? UAHPA in the Battle for Funding
We have an amazing network of chapters here in the Harry Potter Alliance. They focus on issues in their locations and bring our campaigns to life on a more local scale. We’ve seen them do some great things in their communities in the name of the HPA. Now is your opportunity to help one of these chapters achieve a pretty spectacular goal that will allow them to do more amazing work. But we’ll let the UAHPA tell you themselves.
The following was written by Janae Phillips, chapter organizer of University of Arizona’s HPA chapter.
For the past few days I’ve felt a bit like I imagine the students would have the first time they considered joining Dumbledore’s Army: we’re just a small group, a bunch of kids compared to the institutions we’re competing with — do we have any real chance? Okay maybe I’m being a little over-dramatic over a Facebook competition, but it was too good of an analogy to pass up, and I am never one to turn down Harry Potter references.
UAHPA is in a local voting battle to win $1,000 in funding. We’re competing against all of the normal groups: greek life, sports clubs, the department-sponsored ambassador groups. And while I don’t doubt that these groups also do great things for the community, it would be a pretty epic win for our chapter. It would be nice to show the commenter who posted “Harry Potter’s magic isn’t REAL” that, as all of us know, it can be — at least in spirit.
So if any of you here have a couple seconds to spare, I and my chapter would be so so grateful. You do not have to be in Arizona to vote, and you don’t even need to like the page! Just follow this link and if you have chapter groups (or even other groups) you can share this with, you will win my adoration and long-distance hugs. Voting ends on Sunday October 7th at 6:00 PM MST-AZ. Wish us luck everyone! I’ll let you know how it goes.
