Meet the Bloggers: Weird Question Weekly

In the spirit of getting to know your bloggers better, we will be answering a string of sometimes serious, sometimes silly questions in the coming weeks. Please feel free to ask us something in the comments. We want to tell you what you’d like to know!

This week’s question: What are you dressing up as for Halloween?

Joana:In a country where Halloween and trick-or-treating have a long way to go, very few people take the initiative and dress up on October 31st. I however don’t seem to have grown out of the mindset of my first English teacher (who loved to see us do tricks on classmates who didn’t give us candy), and will, indeed, be dressing up just like every other year. After last year’s successful Elphaba costume, I’m taking on another headpiece this year: a pink wig! Remember when Scarlett Johansson was in a Sophia Coppola film and sung karaoke in Tokyo? Yes, that pink wig. In combination with a little black dress, it’s fine for the long Wednesday, but just as good for the party later. (In case you don’t know what I’m talking about just yet, google “Lost in Translation”!)

Emily: As a nice reprieve from the short skirts and general lack of interesting costumes in college, I am going for the witty, I-don’t-know-if-people-will-guess-this, AHA! Moment costume (also staying away from the political here in DC). There a few choices: donning some black and yellow stripes with cut out letters all over the place (a spelling bee), placing a calendar set to May on my bum (Fannie Mae), or painting my face like Jean Simmons while wearing a beret and eating a baguette (French Kiss). Can you tell I love word games? Which one is your favorite?

Kara: I’m going as Death from Neil Gaiman’s Sandmancomics, because she’s the best. I mean, how can you not love a tea-drinking-anthropomorphic-personification of Death, who also happens to be a Mary Poppins fan? That’s what I call rad. You also have to love her cheery humour (especially impressive when you consider her job), her calm dedication to her purpose, and the fact that she has the best sense of fashion in this world of the next (that, incidentally, was a really terrible pun). I plan to have an excellent time making up bad puns about death, and breaking out into Mary Poppins songs for no apparent reason.

Erin:  Because I rarely have cause to anymore, I don’t usually plan out Halloween costumes anymore.  In fact, I often don’t get the chance to wear one at all lately.  But this year we’re going to actually have Trick-or-Treaters (yay!), so I’m planning on throwing something on that I already have in my closet.  I’m probably going to wear my Irish dress I bought at the Ohio Renaissance Festival this year.  This is mostly because I haven’t gotten the chance to wear it much yet and I really love it.  (And, yes, as you can see by my picture, I did wear it to Barnes and Noble the day I bought it.  Just because I’m cool like that.)

Finally: We need blogger questions! Is there something you’ve been dying to ask us? Some quaint or curious niggling question that only we can answer? Or just some random thing that suddenly came into your head at two in the morning? Leave your questions in the comments below, and come back next week to see the team’s answers!

The blog team’s collected wisdom (or epic lack thereof) is here at your disposal…what are you waiting for?!
