Meet the Bloggers: Anna is Good? (ha)

Hi everyone! My name is Anna Good, and I’m one of the newer bloggers. As I write this, I am sitting in the living room of my single apartment surrounded by boxes of stuff that I don’t know what to do with. It’s kind of daunting to be organizing and unpacking all of this on my own…haha. I’m starting my senior year at Allegheny College as of this Tuesday, and I will be working on my senior comprehensive project (aka “comp”) this fall. It’s going to be a photo project centered around my experiences with bullying, and hopefully the semester-long project will help me to heal in some way. I’m an Art and Technology major, with a double minor in Economics and French.

Bus trip with other France exchange students around Europe!

I lived in France for a year before starting college, specifically in Troyes (Champagne-Ardenne), on Rotary Youth Exchange. It was an amazing experience, and I would love to be able to go back some day, even just for a week to see my host families again. S’il y a quelqu’un ici qui parle francais, j’aimerais bien qu’on se parle! La France me manques trop, donc j’aime toujours trouver des gens avec qui je peux parler. : ) If you don’t speak French, don’t worry about what I just said! ;D

Like Kara, I am addicted to tea. I’m always carrying bags of tea around with me on the off-chance that a place only has Lipton (*shudders*). I also love chocolate (who doesn’t??), pain au chocolat, crepes and matzah ball soup. Though not together. I also bake whenever I’m able to, and have my own apple pie recipe that I would love to share with anyone who is interested. Just tell me in the comments! : )

“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library” – Jorge Luis Borge

Books have always been an important part of my life. If you read one of my first blogs here on the HPA, you know that I was bullied from K-12, and novels were my escape from that. I have always surrounded myself with the worlds created by others, fascinated by them and the lives the characters lead. Tamora Pierce was especially appealing to me when I was younger, and still is, because her lead characters fought adamantly against the bullies they encountered. I have always wanted to be like Daine Sarrasri, Keladry of Mindelain, and Lady Sandrilene fa Toren. For all their faults and weaknesses, they overcome and are stronger for them.

Anthony and Rocket

Beyond all that, I have a boyfriend of 2.5 years (Anthony) and we have a 2 year old pug named Rocket. They’re off in Arizona now while Anthony goes to grad school, while I finish up my last year at Allegheny. We travel, go hiking (when I visited AZ, we went on a 10 mile hike up Mt. Elden – 9000 elevation!) and we love to go to the dog park for Rocket to have some friends to play with! : )

Me with Nick and AJ at LeakyCon 2012

The Harry Potter community is also a VERY big part of my life. The majority of my friends I’ve met through Harry Potter, and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. We bond so quickly and love each other so completely – who wouldn’t want to be a part of so wonderful a community? I’ve been to 6 Harry Potter conferences as of this summer, as well as two of the Wrockstocks (2009 and 2010). The past three years at the cons, I’ve been performing in shows. At Infinitus and Leaky 2011, I was Fleur in The Final Battle, and at Ascendio I was Narcissa in Mischief Managed.

At Ascendio and LeakyCon this summer, I also started selling steampunk gear at the craft faires as Steampunk Fabric Dreamer, my shop on Etsy. I make wristcuffs, hair fascinators, earrings and necklaces. It’s a completely different aspect of the conference that I hadn’t experienced before, and is another section of the community that I am so glad to have been introduced to.

All in all, I would describe myself as HP fandomer, photographer, graphic designer, crafter, scrapbooker, world traveler, tea drinker, and French-speaker. What do you see yourself as? : ) Let me know in the comments!
