On the Shooting in Aurora, CO
As many of you have probably heard by now, last night in Aurora, CO a gunman shot and killed twelve people and injured many others in a midnight release of The Dark Knight Rises.
This tragic, senseless act of violence has put us into shock. The HPA staff sends our remorse and our thoughts to all those involved. There are no words that can truly explain how sorry we are.
Violence is violence, whether it is in a movie theater or a school or on a street. The fact that it occurred here is just as horrific, just as upsetting, and just as terrifying. But there is no denying that the fact that it happened in a midnight release is scary. It’s not a place we, especially as fans, ever expect to fear.
Yet, we all know and believe whenever there is a violent act, no matter where, the evil of the world doesn’t get to take over. We know that there is much, much more to life than fear and hatred. We know that love can prevail even when the most horrific of things occur.
Keep strong. We are mourning together now, but we will celebrate together many more times in the future.

Jennifer (and Lauren), thank you for putting into words what so many of us are feeling today. I know so many people who went to midnight releases last night, and it terrifies me to think that it could have been them. Those who have died are in my thoughts, and I will continue to keep all the others who were shot in my thoughts and hope that they will be able to heal.
