Gilderoy Would Be So Proud…If He Could Just Remember Why

I tend to end up writing a lot of articles about horrible things going on the world. It is, or course, all important that people be made aware of such things, but now and then I think it’s equally important to celebrate life’s bright sides. Also, you probably get tired of being belted with the world’s problems every time you open the blog.

So today’s blog is dedicated good news. In particular, to Kenneth Branagh’s recent knighting ceremony. Yep, that’s right, Gilderoy’s wildest dreams have finally come true–at least, they would have, if he could remember them.

Mr. Branagh is, of course, best know to most of us for his spectacularly charming and delightful portrayal of Gildery Lockhart in the Harry Potter films. He is also known for his work with Shakespearean film adaptations (I am particularly fond of his version of Much Ado About Nothing), and as a director of films such as Thor. Mr. Branagh, who will now be known as Sir Kenneth, described himself as feeling “humble, elated, and incredibly lucky,” at being knighted.

That’s nothing compared to what Professor Lockhart would say. Knight of the British Empire is better than Order of Merlin, third class, and Honorary Member of the Dark Arts Defense League put together. Zooks, it’s almost as impressive as winning Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile award five times. But since Professor Lockhart’s memory is still wondering far afield, we will have to take it upon ourselves to congratulate his charming portrayer.

So from all of us Harry Potter fans, a very hearty congratulations, Mr. Branagh. Thanks for bringing our favorite obnoxious professor to life with such charm and style.

How exciting! Thanks for posting this. What a fabulous actor he is to make the character of Professor Lockhart come so alive. I’ve seen him clips of him in more serious roles – what talent!
