It’s a Wrap! Hunger is #notagame.

My, how time flies when you’re having fun! It’s hard to believe, but the Hunger is Not a Game campaign is coming to a close. The HPA’s very first non-Harry-Potter campaign was a huge success, and we’re so glad you all came along for the ride. Here’s just a few of the things we accomplished:

  • We collected over 6300 signatures for Oxfam’s GROW pledge, supporting the fight against Hunger worldwide
  • Thanks to our amazing chapters, we donated over 2000 items (and counting!) to local food banks and pantries.
  • Hundreds of you celebrated International Women’s Day with us, sharing the fictional women who inspired you and empowering others to be kickass.

First Appalachain State Food Drive

We also teamed with Oxfam International for the first time, fighting the five major failings in our system that lead to starvation, and started the whole thing off with a celebration of strong female characters who have inspired us. We had two articles in the New York Times, and when Lionsgate challenged our campaign, our petition asking them to stop gained over 18,000 signatures in just a few days.

Of course, the fight against hunger is far from over. I have no doubt that we will back in the midst of it very soon (and, indeed, we’ve still got food drives going on as we speak), but for the moment it’s time to take a well deserved breather and look forward to the next battle. We at the HPA have been proud to fight alongside Katniss Everdeen and the citizens of the Districts, and we would like to thank each and every one of you for your support. Thank you for making this campaign a tremendous success!

Keep an eye out for new campaign information coming up soon, and please take a moment to tell us what you thought about this campaign in the comments below. The Imagine Better Project has lots more in store for all of us, as we take up the reins (or bows, or wands, or sonic screwdrivers) of our world’s fate, and create the world we want. And with that, let’s go forth into our next adventure with heads held high, and remember…

The odds are always in our favor.
