I seriously cried when I checked the results this morning. I’m so disappointed in a state I love so much, otherwise. I’m not from Maine, and I’m not gay, and still this hit me so badly because we tried so hard and still ignorance is accepted more than love for the voters.
I’m still in next time we fight. it’s not over.

I just want to say I think this is sad; I just don’t get it. As someone getting married very soon, I really feel for the couples who had to cancel their weddings because of this. Quite frankly, I’m more worried about divorce and what that says about the institution of marriage than I am about two women (or two men) getting married.
We just need to keep fighting for what’s right. Remember, it used to be illegal for blacks to marry and for women to own property. America will come around.

This is ridiculous. I’ve been thinking about what Carrie said lately. We look back on issues like slavery and wonder, “How could anyone have ever thought that was acceptable?” One day, people will look back on this and wonder how it was ever socially and legally acceptable to put the marriage of others up to a vote by the general public. Just say it now, and think about how unreasonable it sounds.
We did our part, and we’ll do our part the next time there’s an event like this, hopefully when a state is voting to legalize same-sex marriage.

Although I took no part in the adi to get this passed, and I feel terrible about it, I think that we did help, no matter how agonizing it is to know that the vote did not prove that point. The fight is not over, and when it comes around the next time, we’ll all be ready for a battle.
(I’m reading back on what I said and that all sounded really cheesy with the battle part. Sorry.)

When I heard the results on the radio going to school this morning I almost cried. I hate that people can’t marry who they love! If it ever becomes illegal in my state I may just crack. (and I’m straight. I can’t imagine how this must feel to gays.)

Remember guys, just because we lost a battle it does not mean we’ve lost the war against hate and bigotry.
Even though Prop 1 passed, we still managed to touch a lot of lives and we are closer to equality for all than we’ve ever been before. I can’t begin to thank you all for all the hard work you put into this campaign, for all the calls made, for all the canvassing, for all the love.
There are many LGBT-identified people out there [me included] who feel a little less alone now that we know we have such strong allies.
