Share Your Movie Challenge Stories!

If you handed out nametags at the movie theater before you saw Half-Blood Prince, we want to hear about it!

First of all – Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

All of us at the Harry Potter Alliance have been in awe of the response we’ve gotten on What Would Dumbledore Do from all of our members. The work that this community has done in the past few days is beyond belief….especially during those last few hours before the midnight release, on both Twitter and at the movie theaters.

Whether you handed out 5 or 500 nametags, went by yourself or with friends, we’re interested to hear your stories. After all, you all made this happen – and you made it happen all over the world.

Three Ways to Share Your Story

  1. Leave a comment on this post
  2. Write a blog post about it in the Common Room
  3. Email it to dumbledore@thehpalliance.org

And as you write your stories, think of all the people we’ve reached this week. Those 5 or 500 people who started thinking about Dumbledore. The people who saw more than 12,000 #dumbledore twitters in a span of nine short hours.

Be proud of yourself – for what we did, and what we’re going to keep doing.

Thank you so much for making this happen.

And if you haven’t gone yet (or are going again), remember…you can take nametags with you to ANY showing!

I not only got to hand out some nametags and talk to some great people, who seemed really interested in the cause, but I also managed to get the local press interested too which is amazing. My local paper came down to cover the story =)You can see a scan of the article here

I’d say this has been an outstanding success, and has really got people realising that these arent just books. Of course you get the people who’re too busy rushing to get popcorn and a drink before the movie to talk about the importance of the thing, but I think I definitely got to a couple of people anyway, which is great.

We got there late so we didn’t have time to talk to people, sadly. My What Dumbledore Taught Me tags were homemade though, on stickers and really colorful to draw attention. As my friend and I were leaving, we both stuck our stickers to the front doors of the theater and noticed a few people checking the stickers out when we drove by. The whatwoulddumbledoredo.org website URL was on the stickers so hopefully those people checked out the website and decided to join in. =)

James, that article is so cool! Good job!

My own experience was kind of unique because I’m on holiday in Thailand and barely anyone can speak English (and I can’t speak Thai). But I’ll write about it more in the Common Room.

This campaign has been so much fun, I can’t wait to do more!

I had a great time with this! I went to the movie with twelve friends, nine of whom dressed up. We went to dinner beforehand and I explained the WWDD project and we all filled out nametags… it was cool to get them thinking! A few people from the theatre also asked about them and I was able to share the project and pass out more tags that I brought along.

My favorite WWDD experience was much simpler, though, from the twitter challenge. I had been twittering Dumbledore lessons all week, and I was at the pool with three of my best friends who were fellow HP fans. We literally had a 15 minute WWDD conversation, all about how we could apply Dumbledore’s lessons to our lives and what he would do in certain situations. And this was a deep conversation! We talked about gay rights and immigration and all kinds of things–the lessons of the books becoming more than mere words but real world beliefs. It was fantastic. :)
