Lights Out For Earth Hour

Read about it here!

How was YOUR Earth Hour? What’s that you ask? How was your Earth Hour Andrew! Alright, alright! I’ll tell you. I completely FORGOT about Earth Hour! HA! However, I had all my lights out any way! DOUBLE HA!

I practice something called transformational breathwork – it’s a kind of yoga thorugh the breath. And to do it, I turn off all the lights for one hour! And I started at around 8:12 pm and finished at 9:16 pm. My computer was on, as I was playing music, but it was unplugged! So basically I did Earth Hour on accident. But it was a good breathwork session! And I still saved electricity for one hour almost exactly in time with the rest of the planet. Though I’m in Hawaii so I’m one of the last people on the planet to experience 8:30 pm. I guess YOU can say I’m living in the past! :-) That is unless you’re in Samoa or a couple of other islands. But I’m pretty sure you’re not. So for me, you’re in the future! But either way, point is, I still observed Earth Hour even if it was an accident. I hope you did it consciously!

I cheated a little bit. I did it after having dinner at my grandmother’s house. we still had the TV on but we turned the rest of lights off and she went and got out a torch in case we needed to go anywhere (which was cute). I’m pretty impressed with my Nan because you could tell she didn’t like sitting in the dark. So I’m proud of everyone who gave it a go.

Since I had to be at work I guess all of my lights were off, but I work in theatre, so I was pretty much doing the opposite of Earth Hour (running a few hundred lights and about 6 computers for 3-5 hours). On the plus side, all the lights in our office are compact fluorescents and we recycle all our printer paper. It’s not always much, but we do what we can.

That’s awesome Andrew! Who cares that it was by accident? Maybe it was fate or destiny that all the lights would happen to be off at the same time as the rest of the world.
