Thank You For Wizard Rock the Vote

On Tuesday November 4, 2008 you did a fantastic job of Wizard Rocking the Vote! In total we registered close to 900 voters and mobilized so many to make calls to ban Proposition 8 in California. And while the fight to legalize love in California continues as do so many other fights, we got the word out, we did everything we could, and we got people to vote. And you are all amazing.

This was a project that I helped in, but in truth was actually led by so many incredible individuals who are making the HP Alliance the incredible community that we are. I am bound to forget some people, so please forgive me and let me know at andrew@thehpalliance.org – and there is no way that I can do even a little justice to the amazing work that each of you has done with a little blog mention, but here goes. So a very special thank you go in no particular order to:

Bre and Rita for coming up with the idea. Your vision became a reality. Alex Carpenter for relaying their vision idea to Paul DeGeorge who really took Wizard Rock the Vote and ran with it.

Frak for working tirelessly and creatively for making the Wizard Rock the Vote logos and doing an amazing artistic job as always.

The ever brilliant Acacia for designing the incredible Wizard Rock the Vote page as well as sending out all of the action alert emails. Without Acacia, the HP Alliance would be…well I have no idea but it wouldn’t be any where close to where it is.

Kate and Karen for brilliantly getting the word out to staff and chapters and continuing to help lead the organization as a whole.

Chapters that made Wizard Rock the Vote one of their goals! Including chapters outside the US!!!!

Tita for her tireless work in inspiring us to vote no on Prop 8.

Mary at Rock the Vote for all of her help and guidance since February – including providing the Widget for people to vote online.

The news media for covering what we were doing. Amanda for reminders on voter’s rights and helping us with the Canadian election.

Leaky, Mugglenet, and HPANA for faithfully reporting what we were doing.

Nicole and Jodie for shipping out all Wizard Rock the Vote merchandise and collecting all voter registration forms and sending them over to Ami.

And of course, Ami for sending out forms, assisting Samantha, putting in data, organizing the text messaging.

And I don’t know where we’d be, I mean really, without Samantha’s leadership in this project. Samantha worked sometimes over 30 hour weeks coordinating volunteers to get to the concerts, checking in with them, prepping them, coordinating the bands, and doing so so many things to make this project a success.

And of course, the bands themselves for doing everything they possibly could to get the word out, get people excited to vote, registering people at concerts, selling Wizard Rock the Vote Merch, and so much more. The Wizard Rock community is unbelievable in it’s creativity, in it’s openness, in it’s generosity, and it’s commitment to making the mission of Wizard Rock the Vote and the entire HP Alliance a reality.

And of course, a very very special thank you to every volunteer who volunteered to register people at a Wizard Rock the Vote concert this summer. Without each of you this could not have happened.

In the end, so many people were inspired and reminded about the importance of voting and making choices for our what direction our society moves. Thank you for being part of this process. Thank you to each and everyone of you!!! I am so excited for more to come!!!!
