Dudley and Malfoy

Turns out that teenage bullies actually experience atyptical levels of pleasure when watching others in pain. The brain scan study says it all. Ugh. Can this be fixed?

I think that bullies should be stopped. All they do is cause trouble and make others feel really horrible about themselves. Yes, it can. Help these poor kids find other ways to find extreme pleasure that doesn’t require torture or hurt of others.

Okay so just to clear things up this article does not acuratly portray what the study was actually studying. This study was researching Conduct Disorder (CD) which is a psychological disorder occuring in adolescents, typically more frequent in males, it is often thought of as a precurser to Antisocial Disorder and Pyschopath. One of the criteria if you look at the DSM-IV (Diagnostic Statistical Manuel 4 Edition published by the American Psychiatric Association–which is the only way you can diagnose CD) it outlines that one criteria is as a young child tortured animals (including brutal deaths) and other children. CD is not bullying, CD is a serious condition that some children have that indeed does have many different chemical components than control groups in their brain, this study verifies that. But it is also important to note (I have not read the whole study so I cannot say for sure) but the amygdala while it is thought of as a pleasure center in the brain also consits of emotion in general and often anger. So while I cannot be positive which parts of the amygdala they were researching here… It is a FALSE statement to say that all bullyies recieve pleasure from watching others being hurt. Bullying does NOT equal CD. Yes, bullying is a serious condition and yes many people exhibiting CD do bully other children the words are most certainly not synonomous!

thank you, pickyourownmistletoe. It saddens me often studies are misinterpreted by the media, or even misconstrued.

But now a bunch of people will see this article and think “oh, kids are biologically wired to enjoy bullying, therefore its okay to let them. Its in our nature.” Well maybe not precisely that, but you get the idea.

I was bullied, for real, in school. I dropped out of the 10th grade as a result. I was smacked around alot because I was small (still am) and weak. Not being able to read or write very well do to neurological conditions (which also caused emotional distress and erratic behavior((still does)) also played a factor. I went to a red neck highschool and had zero intentions of conforming. I attended special classes, yada yada. All of this reflects in my life. Now, as a y oung adult, I possess many troll and bully tendencies. I take advantage of internet forums and abuse them with my constant manipulation and redundant ass hole-is-ness. its the ” i know more than you, haha, but thats not really the case so i will front it” complex. I am a normal guy in real life with some baggage. THe internet has become my window to the world. It didn’t embrace me so I conceptualized it as my enemy. Now I am the enemy and my computer is on the way out. what was my voulnerability? how can i find the backdoor and get ride of it, please? are you on my private network? there are a couple, honest people’s lives on the line. (myself excluded)
